Should the Cubs trade Starlin Castro in the upcoming years like 2016/2017 when Javier Baez is at SS full-time as is Arismendy Alcantara at 2B? The Cubs could receive a top prospect if they do this. Thoughts? Opinions?

That ship sailed two years ago. No one at this point is providing a top prospect for Castro imo

Why, because of one bad year. He is playing extremely well this year. People have such short term memories in baseball.

The hitting is secondary for Castro. The primary reason would be for him to take over the team and be the consummate leader for all to follow. He has to have spirit, be the captain on and off the field at all times, and for Gods sakes, stay continuously focused every pitch.

When he can do all of those things, his value will soar through the roof.

He looked like the leader of the defense last night. I get you premise, but lets ee where he goes this year. He looks way more balanced at the plate and his range looks great this year. That play on Marte last night was spectacular. He is stinging balls right now.

I've already debated this a ton so i'm not going to get into it much here. But, simply stated if it were me I'd move Castro to 2B as soon as Baez is ready and have Alcantara and Castro battle it out. If Alcantara wins like I suspect he would then yeah you trade Castro.

Castro could move to 2nd and Baez would play SS. That's what I'd like to see happen..

He had a rocky year last year, but so far he's looked a lot better to start the season.

Like I said, we've been over this and I'm not gonna get into it again. I just feel Alcantara will get on base more, has better speed and switch hits. Obviously he still needs to do it at the MLB level but I didn't say you just hand him the job.

Only difference is Javy could be hitting 30-40 bombs while Castro is more a singles and doubles type of guy, and meatballs dig the long-ball enough that he'll get a pass from the fans. Note that I am not talking about actual player value (in which case Javy would be way ahead of Castro) because the majority of Cubs "fans" (and meatballs of other teams of course) only know about HR, RBI and AVG, weighting them in that order.

I'd trade Castro for a bag of baseballs.

No real reason to trade him. He's a good player and is still young.
