If Melo re-signs with New York and Minnesota doesn't trade Love, I don't see what they could do.

If Melo re-signs for a max contract, that tells you he wanted the money. Some teams are stubborn and Minnesota could just ride out Love another year and not care about losing him for nothing.
Otherwise, yes, that is what the Bulls have to do.

FWIW, and this is why I need convincing, superstar Melo couldn't take the Knicks to the playoffs in a very shitty Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the lowest scoring team in the league grinded out 48 wins.
I'm not saying that's a reason to not go after Melo, but I think what he actually brings plus the long term cap viability really needs to be understood.

if not Melo then who do you want?....only 2 players that would be better is LeBron James and Kevin Durant...we already struck out on Bron and KD isn't a FA until 2016

Easier said than done. But I really don't think Melo is in it for the money. Therefore the decision comes down to, does he believe Phil Jackson can turn around the Knicks in a short amount of time (and does he want to wait that long) and does his wife hold his balls on staying in NY or not... If thats not the case, I fail to see how Carmelo does not come here.
