It looked like Ola had to tap DLP before every snap to let him know when Cutler was set. Is he deaf? Just curious and thought it seemed kind of odd. I did find this from his wiki page (source is the official Saints website): "While in high school he learned sign language in order to better communicate with his youngest sister, who is deaf."

They have been doing it since trestman took over whenever they play a road game and noise is so loud that you can't heat a person next to you talking. They have been doing it for over a year now

We are not the only team that does this, it is pretty common across the NFL. It is easier for the guard to turn around then it is for the center who is paying attention to the D and calling protections

Having the Guard tap the Center to begin the silent count has been going on for a few years. The bad snap was on Cutler, going thru adjustments and alighning players after he high stepped to begin the count. Having the Guard watch for the high step and tap the Center helps the center focus upfield, and concentrate on snapping the ball.

Unless the ball wasnt supposed to be snapped on the first tap. QBs often give the first step with the guard tapping the center and then make adjustments before lifting again for the second tap. Maybe De La Puente just snapped it early.

There certainly was some sort of a communications problem last night, at least on two plays, the snap when Cutler wasn't expecting it, and the delay of game, where Cutler was like a lunatic clapping his hands and stuff trying to get the ball snapped, which it never was resulting in a delay of game. Something definitely has to be taken care of there.
