I remember him as being Baez before Baez. Played multiple positions, infield and outfield...hit about .275, had some big HR's and RBI's. I'll take those numbers for a guy who doesn't play regularly. Don't know what happened in Oakland but he had two pretty successful seasons here and he's only had about 30 AB's this year.

You are saying Coghlan and Baez are comparable?

I can't think of two guys less similar.

A couple more runs gets Lester out of there after 5 or 6 innings.....gets the back end of the bullpen some work and gives Strop, Rondon and Chapman a day off.

They are the back end.

Well if Baez could take walks like Cogs does and Cogs hit like Baez does Cubs would have something.

Cogs has a career 10% BB rate. 20% SO. Think he is at 13% 34% this year. I know he was altering his hitting style away from BA and more towards OBA/SLG. which is waiting on a pitch to drive. It seems like this year he has ended up waiting too long and getting a increased SO rate 14% more than his avg with a 3% increase on his BB. it seems this ties into his talent level mostly. Right idea but lacks the tools to pull it off.

Baez has had over a .380 OBP since june and even though he will never walk a ton. His BB rate is over 6% in that time frame.

Gee, ya think?

No, but before Baez was here playing multiple positions....Coghlan was doing the same thing. Not as well but doing the same type of job for Maddon.

More about his splits. Vs RHP he was running a .280 OBA. His BA was .370 vs LHP.

As I was saying: if he starts to wreck RHP he will end up playing every day.

Hitting that blast vs a Righty vs the sox and going 3-5 yesterday could be a turning point for him.

But his OPS is .341 higher hitting lefties vs righties. If he can bring it up into the .800 range vs righties vs the .750 area it removes the need to trade

@TheCCO: #Cubs vs. #Mariners, Miley (7/30):
Fowler CF
Bryant 3B
Zobrist LF
Baez 2B
Russell SS
Heyward RF
Contreras 1B
Montero C
Arrieta P

No Rizzo today... Contreras at first
Fowler back on top..

Zobrist Baez and Russell get the middle of lineup today
Their going to have to make it go today

Hope to see a little of the early season Arrieta today

Rizzo may be part of a trade to get Tony Campana back.

Looking Like Matusz might start tomorrow. However, if they call him up the only real guys they can option is Grimm or Edwards out of the bullpen. Well Chapman also could be optioned(lol).

I don't Miley has thrown a pitch above the knee yet. And why should he, the plate ump is giving him everything that doesn't hit dirt.

Contrerras looks so clumsy at first base. Bad footwork, awkward on stretches.

Miley is bad at baseball. So obviously he's throwing a no-no against us. SP's with ERA's above 5.00 look like prime Randy Johnson against us.

Good bye Grimm Reaper. Edwards is way better and we can preserve him by using him less.

Playoff team setting their rotation for cubs should stack up on lefties and lefties with ERA over 5..
