It's an odd timing but Colorado looks to be better off. He seems to of wanted more control and the thought was he only viewed Tyson Barrie as a 3-4 type got and not a legit #2 or top pairing Defender so with that recent contract it may have had him more displeased with what Sakic was deciding against him.

The problem is the Avs might not be the write off team out of this central division anymore, which is problematic because if they aren't nobody might be.

Now Roy can maybe wait in the wings to get the Montreal job when Therrian is fired or try to be connected to the new eventual Quebec City expansion/relocation if that comes around. Because nobody else sane should hire him to be a HC.

Solid addition by subtraction for Colorado here. Roy can fuck off.

Yeah, the timing for me was the strangest part.

In 2014 the bottom of the central was 8th from the bottom in the league. In 2015 they were 10th from the bottom. In 2016 they were 6th from the bottom and it was the 1st time since the 2013 lockout that the bottom of the central had less than 80 points (while all of the other divisions has bottoms less than 80 points in the same timespan).

Even though last season the Metro was the strongest division based on how much above the league average and median their respective division average and median was, The Central had that honor in 2015 and 2014 AINEC, while last season the central was close to the Metro.

Ergo, since the division realignment, there has never been a write-off team in the Central. In any other division for 2014, 2015, and to a lesser extent in 2016, the bottom-place Central team would have done a lot of damage in any of the other divisions (especially the incredibly-weak Pacific).

Fattie vs Fatso will always be a debate.

It's stated that Mike Kennan has left his Khl job... interesting timing for an announcement about that. Could he be returning, Sakic doesn't have a ton of open options.

There is a lingering thought that he could hire a current assistant still which puts Kevin Dineen out there, which is mostly a scary thought because what exactly is Jamie Kompon up to?

Got fired from the Winterhawks this offseason, so in all honesty I think any coach that fails at the WHL level is not going to be given the reigns at the NHL level.

Still, I wonder if there's an outside chance Torch, after resurrecting the Wild and getting snubbed for the fulltime coaching job for the perennial also-ran Budreau.

I'd hire Torchetti. Roy, apparently is an emotional dude who burns bridges, left Montreal after not getting pulled and now this. doubt if he'll be offered another coaching job.

You talking about Pierre now?

That's a query, who is less likely to ever get another NHL team job. Roy or McGuire? Both just piss off everyone

Pierre's more likely to be a commentator on women's water polo at the Olympics than to coach in the NHL.

I could see a team become desperate enough to want Roy. I can't see a GM waking up one morning and saying that Pierre is the guy to lead their team.
