Let's say you can only have 5 spices in your spice rack.

Aside from salt and pepper, what 5 spices (including herbs/extracts/flavorings) make the rack?

Garlic, Paprika, Oregano, Chili Powder, and Cayenne Pepper. No particular reason, but these seem to be the ones I use the most.

Garlic powder? I assume in this Crys exercise we are allowed to use all the fresh ingredients we want. So fresh garlic over powdered.

Smoked Paprika, roasted cumin, coriander seeds, chili powder. For the fifth, if hot sauce is not in a separate category and counts as one of the five, then cayenne pepper. If Hot sauce is not a spice rack ingredient, the the fifth becomes a combination spice like Old Bay. Crap I also want celery salt, I'll sneak that in right past Crys, his mod powers have no effect in the kitchen.

At this point the wife kills me because I got nothing for her baking. Fuck cinnamon.

This, except I'd sub cumin for garlic powder. I use garlic and onion powder all the time but you could find a way around that. Cumin is crucial, though.

Adobo, Sazon Goya con pimento, Salt, Pepper, Garlic.

Technically that's cheating since Sazon Goya and Adobo are spice mixes.

Read the rules, we already have salt and pepper. Plus I used a combination of spices with Old Bay. I don't think you can count your own personal recipe for a rub as one spice, but stuff that is sold pre-combined like Old Bay is okay, at least that's the way I took it.

Chipotle powder, poultry seasoning, cumin, paprika, and green chile spice rub (the last one is a local guys mix that can go on pretty much everything. It's amazing)

I can get by on these + S&P. Just 5 is a really tough one. Looking in the spice cabinet, I'm probably like most of you and have a good 40+ spices.

Chipotle, oregano, curry, cumin, mustard seed.

I went to culinary school for 4 years...with out a doubt if you are going Italian and/or Latin and/or American cooking the list would be as follows:

Salt
Pepper
Garlic
Oregano
Red pepper flakes
Paprika
Parsley

Agreed would like to use fresh ingredients here but these are probably the 5 most frequently used in the spice rack..

Well in that case add cilantro, and oregano to the list. Basil as a runner up.

If someone genuinely replaces sea/iodized salt with celery salt, and black pepper with allspice or white pepper, then go for it, list another spice in its place.

It's your list, you can have toothpaste and pickles for all I care. But you use bicarb as a spice? I only use them as leaveners or alkalizers.

For me it would be Cayenne, Old Bay, Montreal Steak Seasoning, All-Spice, and Cumin.

I went with these because my other main staple spices (garlic, oregano, rosemary, and basil) I can get fresh and prefer them fresh.
