Mitchell Trubisky - QB - Tar Heels
Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson has heard from "adamant" evaluators over the last week that the Browns, 49ers, Bears and Bills are targeting UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky.
These are all usual suspects when it comes to Trubisky. Breaking them down, we would be surprised to see Trubisky at No. 1 to Cleveland, but No. 2 to the 49ers wouldn't completely shock -- though San Francisco is reportedly looking to trade down from No. 2. There has been less talk of Trubisky to the Bears and considerably more about Deshaun Watson to the Bills. Expect to hear plenty more adamant evaluators over the next week. Then, showtime.

The Bears should pick a QB at 3.

Even more so if they have all QB options available.

David Njoku - TE - Hurricanes
Breaking down Miami TE David Njoku, one NFL scout told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: "I don’t know how you take an unproductive backup guy from an average team and take him in the first or second round … he’s a track guy but as far as a football player, he is a long ways away."
That scout was lower on Njoku than the others quoted, and Njoku did finish No. 2 behind O.J. Howard in the Sentinel's poll regarding the top TE in the class. "Lot of wow plays," said a second scout. "An athletic freak." Said a third scout: "Gonna be a star. He’s better RAC (run after the catch) than O.J. Howard. O.J.’s better, but this kid has up side." The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Njoku, a high jumper in high school, tore up the NFL Combine. "He’s a beautiful looking thing," a fourth scout said. "His broad jump (11-1) and vertical jump (37 ½) were out of this world. Very explosive linear but when he runs he’s kind of stiff upper body. Little herky-jerky. Last year he had a lot of drops; this year he cleaned up his hands a little bit. He needs a boot up his (expletive) but he’s got a lot of ability. His blocking is OK."

DeShone Kizer - QB - Fighting Irish
In a Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel poll of 16 NFL evaluators, Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer was named the most likely quarterback to bust among the class' top-five signal-callers.
Kizer received nine votes. Texas Tech's Pat Mahomes finished a distant No. 2 with two votes, while UNC's Mitch Trubisky and Clemson's Deshaun Watson received one apiece. Two of the executives copped out and said all five -- Cal's Davis Webb being the fifth -- were equally risky. "He’s not as good as he should be because he’s not committed to the game," one AFC executive said of Kizer. "He’s committed to building a brand. He wants all the things that come with being a starting quarterback but doesn’t want to put in the work." An NFC personnel man agreed, saying Kizer is most interested in status and money. "That’s what drives him," said the executive. "It’s all about him. Prima donna. Thin-skinned." Chad Reuter's most recent mock draft has Kizer slipping to Round 3.

Deshaun Watson - QB - Tigers
An NFL scout speaking to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said Clemson QB Deshaun Watson is better than Dak Prescott.
"You can say he’s better than Dak Prescott," the scout said. "Total winner. Highly poised. Top intangibles. Lot of predetermined throws. Going to need a lot of work, like all these guys from the spread." Watson went 32-3 in college, with the 32nd win coming in January in the national title against Alabama. "He’s No. 1," a second scout said. "He’s played the best in the biggest stages. His best thing is leadership. He’s a winner. He has to develop into a pocket passer." Scouts don't question his arm, but they do have reservations about his decision making and progression reading. "He’s No. 1 just because he’s a better leader," said a third scout. "Like the kid a lot. His character is really, really good. His mechanics are below average. He threw 17 interceptions this year, which is terrible for a first-round quarterback, and a lot of them were really bad decisions. Just throwing the ball up for grabs."

Pat Mahomes - QB - Red Raiders
In discussing Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, NFL scouts mentioned Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre when discussing Mahomes' improvisational ability.
"I may be crazy but when I watch his tape, just as a scout, I get excited," a personnel man said. "He’s a guilty pleasure. We all have biases. Going in, Texas Tech, dink, dunk, dink, dunk, this guy cannot translate. I left saying, ‘Love this guy. He’s so much fun.’ He pulls plays out of his (expletive) like you wouldn’t believe. It’s not dink and dunk. He believes in his arm so much that it’s a problem sometimes. He’s not ready right now. I’m not comparing him to Aaron (Rodgers), but that natural sense of making plays when they break down is unusual." A longtime favorite of Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom, Mahomes' stock has skyrocketed during the pre-Draft process. He's currently being projected between the Cardinals' pick at No. 13 and the Texans' pick at No. 25. "He is a great kid and willing to do everything," said another scout. "But he’s playing in this gunslinger spread offense (expletive) that no quarterback has ever succeeded from, really."

Mitchell Trubisky - QB - Tar Heels
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky is "still under serious consideration by the Browns at No. 1."
Talk of Trubisky to the Browns at No. 1 simply refuses to die. These rumblings kicked off in earnest on April 11, when ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that there were "split opinions" as to whether to select Myles Garrett -- viewed as close to a consensus No. 1 throughout the process -- or Trubisky. Earlier this week, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora dumped even more fuel on this divided fire, passing along word that Hue Jackson and the Browns' coaching staff was "all in" on Garrett, but that the front office was leaning toward Trubisky. With the Cleveland Plain Dealer's fresh report that Trubisky remains in play for the Browns at No. 1, it is becoming increasingly difficult to just dismiss this as idle talk. We still ultimately think that Browns will take Garrett. One other note from Cabot's report -- she was told "don't be surprised" if the 49ers select Trubisky at No. 2, something that the Browns are almost certainly factoring into their decision.

Njoku recorded the 3rd highest vertical in sports science history at 44.5 in. He has the same catch radius as Mike Evans.

He also has the worst drop percentage out of the top 5 TE prospects. Definitely a better athlete than TE at this point.

DT prospect Caleb Brantley facing charges for assaulting a woman a week before the draft.

Ranked as high as the 4th best DT prospect, he faces a misdemeanor charge for physically attacking her and knocking her out.

(Why is this only a misdemeanor?)

If you can't control yourself any time, it's bad. But with your livelihood on the line? This is the one crime the NFL cares about. (Or pretends to). DUI, drugs, no sweat. But these days, assaulting wa woman is the quickest way to get suspended.

This is unbelievable. Less than a week before the draft.

Well, to be fair, he knocked her out TWO weeks before the draft. It just was made public, so my statement was incorrect. :)

I shouldn't even joke a little. It's not funny. Bad enough that guys can't control themselves. But if he can't avoid that at this critical time in his life, he never will.

Adoree' Jackson - DB - Trojans
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline hears that the Cowboys are targeting USC CB Adoree' Jackson with their first-round pick.
Sitting at pick No. 28, the Cowboys are squarely in the projected draft sweet zone for Jackson. According to Pauline, they are also intrigued by Clemson's Cordrea Tankersly, who could be a Day 2 option for them should Jackson either have already flown off the board or they instead opt to take a first-round pass-rusher. Along with the Cowboys, the Texans, Eagles, Browns, Bucs and Titans reportedly all had visits with Jackson during the draft process.

Pat Mahomes - QB - Red Raiders
An NFL area scout told Yahoo Sports during the college season that Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes is "who we wanted Johnny Manziel to be."
"That’s both a good and a bad thing. He’s a gamer, but he’s a real project," the scout said. Most comparisons are relatively boilerplate, but this is a sort of sideways one that makes a lot of sense. Like Johnny Football, Mahomes is a player who excels at conjuring something out of nothing. Unlike Manziel, he comes with none of the off-field baggage and offers more pure arm talent. Other scouts have tossed out Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre as similar to Mahomes in their ability to improvise in the moment.

Zay Jones - WR - Pirates
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline hears that the Seattle Seahawks "would quickly scoop [ECU WR Zay Jones] up" if he is available in the second round.
The Seahawks hold pick No. 58 in the second round. It might be a stretch to imagine Jones still sitting around at that point, as we would expect him to fly off the board relatively early in Round 2 (assuming he doesn't sneak into the first round). As for other parties who have been linked to the 6-foot-1, 197-pounder, it was reported earlier this month that he took in a visit with the Titans.

Julie'n Davenport - T - Bison
An NFL scout who spoke with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel called Bucknell T Julie'n Davenport "kind of soft."
"Going into the Senior Bowl you compared him to [Troy T Antonio] Garcia, but Garcia is leaps and bounds better," the scout said. Another talent evaluator offered a mixed assessment of the 6-foot-7, 318-pounder, saying, "If you’re drafting him on looks alone he’s wow," another scout said. "But he needs a ton of work." The Falcons, Raiders, Cowboys, Jaguars and Texans are among the teams who have run Davenport through private workouts in the lead-up to the draft. And one piece of trivia to astound guests during your draft parties -- Davenport's wingspan of 87.5 inches was the longest of any player at any position at the Combine.

John Ross - WR - Huskies
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that Washington WR John Ross is "in the conversation" for the Bengals at No. 9.
Pauline additionally reports that the Bengals do not have qualms about Ross' rather extensive injury history. No. 9 is about as high as we have heard for the Washington speedster. Pauline, himself, does not see Ross off the board until No. 21 (to the Lions) in a four-round mock draft released last week.

Forrest Lamp - T - Hilltoppers
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline reports that the Miami Dolphins are "locked in" on Western Kentucky OL Forrest Lamp for Day 1.
Pauline hears that if Lamp is either already off the board or there is a strong pass-rushing prospect still available at No. 22, they may wait until the second round or thereabouts to draft offensive line help. The analyst relays that Pitt G Dorian Johnson and Utah G Isaac Asiata would be two potential second-round targets for the team. Should they land Lamp in the first round, they would likely focus on pass-rusher come Day 2.

Deshaun Watson - QB - Tigers
Walter Football's Charlie Campbell reports that the Saints are considering taking a quarterback in the first round.
The Saints hold picks Nos. 11 and 32, the latter coming to them as part of their Brandin Cooks trade to the Patriots. Writes Campbell, "Sources say that Payton likes all four of the top quarterback prospects." However, he adds that " it sounded as if it was more unlikely than likely." While a rookie quarterback would have the luxury of developing behind Drew Brees, the team is also desperately in need of defensive help after ranking 27th in total defense for the past campaign.
