Yes it is pendantry because it's a distinction of noticing. And the sad state of Slovakians absent hockey development

Just as calling a cornish, welsh, or scott a Brit. Not saying they're Czech or some fake culture mix. It's a literal birthplace.

Sports has that weird trait of calling out birthplace where you get the oddities of Olaf Kolgiz born in South Africa and the often, oh x player was born in Chicago but raised away.

Or the odd Kane in his art ross win being the first American... wait no he wasn't Bret Hull was.. so hes the first born American, wait no he some guy from the 20s that won it was born in the state of new York but a raided Canadian... so they carve out first born and raised it "trained" in America. But he did play in the CHL, I bet if Mathews wins it that will be debated by some people looking for loops to find declaritive statements within.

Franson, Smaltz, Hayden, Hino, Forsling stood out in this one. Big beat down early even though it seemed like they had more regulars than us deployed. Kempny and Ruuta did well also, were physical.

I was intrigued Debricat sat since he has been lined with Smaltz-Kane in practice. Almost like he has already claimed a spot. ??

If indeed Schmaltz is slotted for 2LC, flanked by Sharp & #88, he needs a LOT of work on the dot, got to take puck possession at least 48% of the draws or Kane's productivity is compromised (Sharp is a relative unknown this season).

As much as that whole "distinction culture" is something peculiar to the NHL, from the flipside you could be hurling a pretty big insult if you say someone is something they don't identify with--especially if it was precipitated by something that was forced on them that they don't view as particularly good. Case in point; a lot of Slovaks I know personally don't like to be tied back to Czechoslovakia--not because of anything against the Czechs but because of memories of socialism. It would be like, in a historical context, calling Nathan Hale or any of the other founding fathers "British." after we won the Revolutionary War (at the time you would hale likely gotten the Arron Burr Treatment).

While I get your angle of logic, Somehow I think Foley's angle was just pure ignorance/laziness or nipping at the flask.

I agree with the first part, but for the bold, it was only the first game. No way Debrincat locked anything up yet. They are probably saving him for the home game tomorrow. :shifty:

This...plus with El Gato being our top prospect I think the 'hawks marketing brass wants to save him for the home crowd and let the maybes fight it on the road.

Thursday, Saturday, Monday.

An El Gato sighting is certain.

Over under he scores 1.5 goals in those 3 games even if he only plays two. And 2.5 points. I say over.

I just can't get up for crappy preseason games. I can't believe people have to pay to show up to them.

Played well with Kane too, nice to see. And I'm sure after tonight, you are no longer Saad.

Imagine being a season ticket holder and having to pay full price for pre-season games.

Oh, he knows the pain.

Looks like I missed a good one; especially with Saad getting the hattie.

Watched about last 45 minutes of game on NHLN. Prior game went to OT and then they had to do game high lights before going to next game. Hawks were already up 3-0 by the time they went to it with a @ 15 minutes left in the 2nd period. Was a bit frustrating

you did miss a fun one. And all of Saad's goals were from right in front of the net. Love to see that!
Nice! I heard he looked good with Panik. Hoping those two can carry Toews </biting sarc>

The new slashing rules are ridiculous. I really hope they slack off on enforcing once we get in to the regular season.

That's exactly what I mean, they charge them full price, and it makes you see people all over the place asking $150 for a pair of pre-season tickets.... unreal.
