Maddon does a lot of things very well. But despite what many fanboys think he is not a great strategist.

People overestimate what you can do with "strategy." Ultimately it's up to the guys to go out and execute whatever you go with. Caritini didn't with the bases loaded and Jay/Avila didn't with the game on the line and a guy a third. And obviously that says nothing of the other 7 innings in which the offense did little. I mean I get it people want 1 person to blame but the reality of the situation is there's never one guy to blame.

I blame the players for not coming through in situations
But
Have to question/blame Maddon for his thinking in those last 2 innings with not bunting in 8th with 1st n 2nd no outs down 1 and hot hitting Bryant and Rizzo to follow..
Then Bunt in 9th with first n 2nd no outs down 2 and Zobrist and Jay to follow..
Just dont get what goes on in his head sometimes

I sorta like the idea of Schwarber batting second. He's not really been much of a singles hitter lately and he has proven he still walks a bunch which you certainly don't want to do in front of Bryant the way he's hitting which should lead to hittable pitches.
