The Chicago Bulls have drafted Wendell Carter Jr. with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, making the selection on Thursday night.
Carter Jr. joins a young Bulls team in the middle of a rebuild after they traded Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves on this night last year. The former Duke standout will join a roster that includes 2017 first-round pick Lauri Markkanen, wing Zach LaVine and point guard Kris Dunn.
The 19-year-old averaged 13.5 points and 9.1 rebounds for the Blue Devils in his one year in Durham. He got better over time on the defensive end and can be a solid option with Markkanen in the post.

Carter is a known commodity at this stage who gets overshadowed in this class at times by the taller, longer, more explosive and flashier players surrounding him in the top ten of the rankings. Nevertheless, he seems to be the most sure-fire player of the bunch, as he’s already very much a ready made product who should be able to come in and make a major impact in college from day one. Carter’s NBA upside is significant as well, as he ticks quite a few boxes teams look for in a big man, somewhat in the Al Horford mold.
