John Groce has secured his highest rated commitment since he became the Illini head coach.
Leron Black, a 5-star power forward from Memphis, Tennessee, joins Michael Finke as the second member of the 2014 recruiting class. Black chose Illinois over Baylor, Indiana, and Tennessee. The newest member of the 2014 class was originally committed to Baylor a year ago before decommitting.
Black comes in at 6’7″ 215, and is a consensus top 50 player. Rivals rates him as the 22nd best player in the nation, 36th on ESPN, 38th on 247, and 46th on Scout.
Black and his family visited Illinois this weekend starting Friday, and he left committed. In an interview with The News-Gazette he says, “Before I came here this weekend, I knew Illinois is where I wanted to be. The Illinois coaching staff is amazing, the campus was amazing and I feel like I’m going to grow here as a player and a person and spiritually. I feel like I can trust the coaches. I believe in them and this is the right spot.”
This commitment leaves Illinois with one spot remaining in their 2014 class. Chicago Curie PF Cliff Alexander and Louisville Ballard PG Quentin Snider are the top two players still on the radar for 2014.
