It’s been just under two weeks since Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras went down with a hamstring injury in San Francisco.
Contreras’ injury is though to keep him out at least 4-6 weeks, leaving a hole in the Cubs lineup. At the time of the injury, Contreras was the Cubs best hitter and was on a tear.
With his bat out of the lineup, Chicago has started to pick things up however. They are 7-3 in the 10 games he’s missed and his fill-in, Alex Avila, has played well including the game-winning hit on Sunday against Toronto.
Contreras has been with the team as they hosted the Cincinnati Reds and Blue Jays last week but we haven’t heard much.
Until now.
Cubs pregame host Mark Grote provided an update on Contreras and it sounds like a good one:

This is coming before the Cubs open up a three-game series against the last place Reds in Cincinnati. The thing with hamstring injuries is that you don’t want to rush a player back because it can flare up again.
But with Contreras being put through running drills with Cubs trainers, he might be on track for an earlier return.
