The Blackhawks hang on to defeat the Vancouver Canucks by a final score of 4-3 in a shootout tying the NHL record for most consecutive games to start a season with at least point.

Dale Weise and Brandon Bollig dropped the gloves early in the first period after Weise delivered a crushing hit on Marcus Kruger that triggered the fight. Bollig was penalized with a five-minute major, two-minute minor for instigating, and a 10-minute misconduct.

Daniel Sedin opened up the scoring for the Canucks later in the period when he backhanded a shot that snuck inside Ray Emery’s five-hole.

The Blackhawks responded with three goals of their own in the second period from Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa (2), one on the power play.

Just over a minute into the third period, Jannik Hansen was slapped with a two-minute roughing penalty for forearming Marian Hossa that forced him to exit the contest, and wouldn’t return.

With three minutes remaining, the Canucks capitalized on a power play when Alex Edler blasted a shot from the point that found its way to the back after a deflection.

Minutes later, the Canucks took advantage of the extra-attacker once again leading to Kevin Bieksa rifling home his fourth goal of the season tying the game at 3 a piece.

After a scoreless overtime, Chicago escaped the shootout with Andrew Shaw potting the game-winning goal.

The Blackhawks registered 13 blocked shots as a team on top of 19 takeaways.

Ray Emery improves his record to 6-0-0 this season stopping 29 of 32 (.906 save %) shots.

Power Play: 1-for-5
Penalty Kill: 2-for-3
