The Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday morning that they will be raising ticket prices by an average of 16 percent for the 2013-2014 season.
Despite being a large market team that has no problem selling tickets and filling the United Center, the Hawks were in towards the middle of the pack in ticket prices this past season. “We were ranked 11th in ticket prices last season. We’re a team that operates in a major market. We were ranked 28th in ticket prices during the 2007-08 season. We’ve made so many improvements in personnel and in the team in recent years that we’re trying to remain competitive in a major market.” said Blackhawks ticket operation and customer relations vice president Chris Werner.
The Hawks have sold out 215 consecutive games,which dates back to the 2007-2008 season. The ticket price increase varies throughout the eight different season ticket packages that the Hawks offer. Some increases are higher than others but it comes out to an average of a 16 percent rise. About 75% of seats at the United Center are season ticket holders’.
Along with the increase in prices, the Hawks also mentioned that the season ticket packages will not include the game at Soldier Field against the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, season ticket holders will be offered tickets to the game before they are released to the general public.
