The Blackhawks rally from two goals down to defeat the Dallas Stars by a final score of 3-2 in overtime remaining perfect on the season.

The Blackhawks held two power plays in the opening period, but failed to capitalize on both opportunities.

The first period remained scoreless until the 19:59 mark when Dallas’ Loui Eriksson squeezed a shorthanded goal past Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second period, Ray Whitney extended Dallas’ lead when teammate Cody Eakin forced a turnover then fed a wide open Whitney on the doorstep who flushed home the second goal of the game.

After it seemed like nothing would get past Stars goaltender Kari Lehtonen, the Blackhawks finally caught a break when Patrick Sharp’s intended pass deflected off of a Dallas defender and in behind Lehtonen to cut Dallas’ lead to a goal.

Late third period, Chicago was awarded their 6th power play of the night which led to a Jonathan Toews snipe to tie the game at 2.

And on the 7th power play on the night in overtime, the Blackhawks cashed in after Marian Hossa buried his fifth goal of the season off a Patrick Kane spin-o-rama no-look pass.

The Blackhawks recorded 41 shots on goal tonight while Dallas’ defenders blocked another 24 shots. If you’re counting, that’s 65 total shots towards the net for Chicago in less than 62 minutes of game time.

Patrick Kane now has three  multi-point games to start out the 2013 season.

Crawford stopped 21 of 23 (.913 save %) on the night and registered his third straight win of the year.

Power Play: 3-for-7 (Chicago has scored at least one power play goal in their first four games this season).
Penalty Kill: 2-for-2

WHAT’S NEXT?
The Blackhawks will travel to Columbus to battle the Blue Jackets in the first of four meetings this season; puck drop at 6:00pm CT!
