After a strong first 12 minutes, the Blackhawks got on the board with Patrick Sharp scoring after Tukka Rask made 5 saves in a row during a great sequence by the Blackhawks second line.
At one point in the first period, the Bruins went seven minutes in between shots. Patrick Sharp was responsible for 6 shots in the first period, as Boston only managed 4 as a team in the first period.
The Bruins came to play in the second, tilting the ice in their favor as Chris Kelly got a goal with 5:02 remaining in the second period.
After a hard-fought third period, the game headed to overtime.
With both teams having a solid chance to win the game in overtime, the Bruins struck with about 6 minutes remaining in the first OT period with a goal by Daniel Pallie.
Rask was amazing throughout, stopping 33 shots on the night and settling in despite the onslaught by Chicago in the first period.
It was a discouraging loss for the Blackhawks, but they head up to Boston for games 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday respectively.
