Just 2.1 innings into the game Mark was ejected from the game after he got a second balk called on him. Ozzie Guillen was also ejected and after the game said, “Joe has been like that for a lot of years, and he’s always going to be like this,” Guillen said, dropping several expletives throughout a rant that’s certain to get a look from Major League Baseball. “I’m not going to change it, nobody is going to change it, but sometimes he thinks people pay to watch him umpire. He’s the type of guy that wants to control the game, and to me is one of the best umpires in the game, no doubt.”
Despite not having their ace and manager the Sox held on for the 5-4 win. Early MVP candidate started the party with an RBI single. The not so terrible anymore Mark Teahen also hit a 2 RBI single to score Rios and Konerko.
In the 4th Peralta got one back for the Tribe on a sac fly.
In the 6th Mark Kotsay went deep, and I mean DEEP as he blasted a 2 run home run that went 409 feet to give the Sox a 5-1 lead.
In the 9th the Tribe tried to make a comeback, Peralta scored on the RBI walk to make it a 5-2 Sox lead. Duncan made it even closer with a 2 RBI single. The score was now 5-4. The threat ended as the Indians left the bases loaded in the 9th.
In 2.1 innings Mark gave up 0 runs on 3 hits. It was up to the bullpen for the rest of the game. Williams, Putz, and Jenks were decent in their relief effort but the most impressive was Tony Pena. Pena went 4 innings giving up 2 hits and 0 runs.
The Sox(20-26) start a new series in Tampa tomorrow night.
