The Chicago Bears coaching search continues on, entering week two and there are still as many questions as before with what is going on. As the Bears get set to interview Mike McCarthy on Wednesday, they are still being linked to Ben Johnson as well as other coaches.
Many believe Johnson and McCarthy could be the two favorites to land the job. However, things may not be going good on the Johnson front.
Another report has come out regarding the Bears and their pursuit of Johnson and it’s one that was an initial thought across the league. Johnson has been heavily pursued in this coaching cycle, but it is believed that he will be the next head coach in Chicago or for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Insider believes that the Chicago Bears will have to clean house
In Mike Florio’s latest appearance on 670 The Score, he mentioned some pretty significant information between Johnson and the Bears head coaching vacancy. Here is what he said on the program Wednesday morning:
“You got to read the tea leaves, connect the dots … I think for the Bears to even have a remote chance at Ben Johnson, they’re going to have to clear out the front office, Florio said. “It’s the cover charge to try to get Ben Johnson.”

We could be heading back to square one for the Bears in the recruiting of Johnson. Originally, it was thought that it was either Ryan Poles would stay on as the general manager and they wouldn’t get Johnson, or they give Johnson the gig and allow him to have a say in the organization’s next GM. After some time, it appeared that Poles was willing to hear out Johnson in order to potentially keep his job, and Johnson had come around to the idea of hearing out Kevin Warren on the plan moving forward.
One riff that could be bringing us back to this state is what the Las Vegas Raiders have done in attempt to snag Johnson. They fired their general manager, Tom Telesco after one season in hopes to sway Johnson in getting exactly what he wants.
Ben Johnson could be worth the Chicago Bears making changes
It is up to Chicago’s front office to determine if relieving Poles of his duties is something they want to go through with if it means bringing the offensive guru to the Windy City. Everyone knows what Johnson would mean for Caleb Williams and his development as he prepares to enter his second season in the league.
Throughout this process it has been thought that the Bears are going to do right by Williams in this hire to give him the best chance to succeed and lead the franchise to glory. It can’t be said for sure that Johnson will guarantee the Bears that, but it appears that he gives them the best opportunity at getting the Bears back to where they need to be.
