The 2025 season will be big for everyone in the Chicago Bears organization. After another successful free agency period and the potential to add even more talent in the draft next week, the pressure is on to make a playoff push. With new head coach Ben Johnson set to bring a high-powered offense to the table, it could be an exciting season for Bears fans.
Perhaps no one will feel this pressure more than second-year QB Caleb Williams, who was selected first in last year’s draft. After his solid but not world-breaking rookie season, Williams will be expected to make a big leap in year two, especially with the talent surrounding him.
Much of the talk about Williams over the past few years has been his off-the-field “antics”, or if you can even call them that. He’s a bold personality who is unapologetic about himself, and some media members are already calling him out for it.
Former NFL player Chris Canty says Caleb Williams is starting to feel like a “celebrity QB.”
Chris Canty played in the NFL for 11 seasons after being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2005. The former defensive lineman wasn’t a superstar by any means, but he was servicable enough to play double-digit years in the NFL, which is an accolade in its own right. Canty also won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants.
Documented for his comments about Williams in the past, Canty had even more to say about the Chicago Bears QB earlier this morning on ESPN.
“Bill Parcells used to say this all the time: Be aware of the celebrity quarterback. And it feels like that’s the road Caleb Williams is starting to go down. Where it’s more about the brand, it’s more about the individual, rather than setting the right tone, or about the selfless sacrifice that it takes to be in a leadership position.”
How ridiculous is that? Canty provides no substance here. Whenever he has the chance to crap on someone, it seems like he takes it. This is the same guy who said Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow “Is not very good” a few weeks ago, so I guess we should take his words with little seriousness.
Canty also mentioned that this situation is even more complex, due to the fact that the Bears have been searching for a franchise-caliber QB for years.
This caused a public outcry on X (formerly known as Twitter) this morning into the afternoon, as fans were outraged and called out Canty for his comments.

The fact that he's a 21yr old KID and being asked to carry a group who's been inept at everything for decades says a lot.

Bears fans are riding for their QB, at least for now. Canty will likely go on some social media tirade after he reads these, and provide some reasoning for his comments. At the end of the day, Williams needs to focus on his game, and that’s all.
