Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is turning to an established veteran offensive line coach, who has experience coaching several positions, according to multiple reports.
Johnson’s latest addition to the Bears’ coaching staff, is hiring Dan Roushar as offensive line coach.
Roushar, 64, spent the past two seasons as the Tulane Green Wave’s offensive line coach, on the heels of spending the previous decade with the New Orleans Saints.
Why Dan Roushar is a home run hire for Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

During his time in New Orleans, Roushar crossed paths with new Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, where he coached the offensive line for five years, while also having stints as the running backs coach and tight ends coach.
Under Roushar’s tutelage, offensive linemen Terron Armstead, Andrus Peat, Larry Warford, and Max Unger all had Pro Bowl seasons with the Saints, from 2016 through 2020.
Roushar’s experience and versatility across the offense should be an asset to Johnson, as he goes about implementing his own scheme, because of his ability to “speak the language” of several different position groups.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, the Bears interviewed at least four other candidates before ultimately hiring Roushar.
During his career, Roushar has coached offensive line across all levels of the NFL and college football over the past 38 years, adding a wealth of experience to Johnson’s staff.
Roushar could prove to be an asset to running back D’Andre Swift and the Bears’ backfield, and his hiring could signal a commitment to building the kind of offensive line that’s capable of playing a power running style.
