One of the most significant parts of the 2025 offseason for the Chicago Bears was how much they invested in the trenches. General Manager Ryan Poles wasted no time improving the offensive line.
The Bears’ offensive line was among, if not the worst, in all of football last year. Quarterback Caleb Williams was running for his life throughout his rookie season and was sacked a franchise record 68 times. The offensive line struggled badly blocking the run, and also dealt with numerous injuries during the 2024 season.
It was no question that the Bears needed to completely revitalize the offensive line, and Chicago’s general manager did exactly that during this offseason.
The Chicago Bears have one of the most improved offensive lines in the NFL

Ryan Poles and Ben Johnson’s priority this offseason was to completely turn around the interior of the offensive line.
Andrew Ites of Pro Football Focus explained that the Bears have one of the most improved offensive lines in the NFL. Ites believes the most impactful move of the entire Bears offseason was the signing of Drew Dalman.
“The Bears’ most impactful move of the offseason may be the signing of Drew Dalman, who was PFF’s fifth-highest-graded center last year following a stellar 2023 season in which he finished as the fourth-highest-graded player at the position.”
The Bears have struggled heavily at center for a long time, and Dalman should change that instantly.
The other two key moves that Poles made were trading for All-Pro guard Joe Thuney and Pro Bowl guard Jonah Jackson.
“The headline move was trading for two-time All-Pro Joe Thuney, who has been one of the most consistent offensive linemen in the NFL, with a 74.2 PFF overall grade or higher in every season since 2017. ”
“General manager Ryan Poles also traded a sixth-round pick to reunite Jonah Jackson with his old offensive coordinator. Jackson hasn’t graded above 70.0 in any season of his career, but with Johnson knowing the player well from their time together in Detroit, the organization will hope to get the best out of him in Chicago.”
Thuney still has some good years left in him and will be a valuable leader for the offense, It would not be surprising if he gets a contract extension soon. Jackson had the best season of his career under Ben Johnson and needs to have a bounce-back season in 2025, following his disappointing stint with the Los Angeles Rams.
With a much improved offensive line, Caleb Williams has high expectations for 2025

“Considering all of these moves along the offensive line and the addition of some offensive weaponry with their first two picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, Chicago should expect to see a major leap from second-year quarterback Caleb Williams.” Ites said.
The second-year quarterback should see growth in the passing game in 2025 due to the improvements made along the interior offensive line. Thuney and Dalman are excellent pass-blockers and should be able to make the young quarterback’s life much easier in 2025.
