Chicago Bears Not Ready For Hibernation Just Yet

No one was sure how this Bears game was going to go against the Cowboys out on the lakefront Thursday night after some recent wins over some less-than-stellar teams, but the Bears team that we’ve been waiting for all season, finally showed up.

With the win, the Bears keep their playoff hopes alive.

Since starting the season 3-5, they’ve rattled off 3 straight wins, 4 of their last 5, and it’s been in large part due to Trubisky’s play improving.

  • First 7 games: 136/216, 63% cmp%, 1217 yards, 5 TDs, 3 Int, 46 yds rushing, 0 TDs
  • Last 5 games: 117/176, 66% cmp%, 1223 yards, 11 TDs, 5 Int, 97 yds rushing, 2 TDs

I mean…

Tonight Mitchell Trubisky of the @ChicagoBears became the first QB in NFL history to …

Complete 70.0+ pct of his passes on 30+ attempts
Throw 3+ TD passes
Rush for 50+ yards
Rush for a TD

… all in the same game.#Bears100

He’s been clicking these last few games and is starting to look like last year’s Mitch. It’s hard to really say what’s changed, but Nagy is rolling him out more, he’s running more, he’s not wildly inaccurate, he’s throwing the more than 3 yards or a dump off, it’s like a whole new offense.

Everything I just listed out is what everyone has been calling for all season, I don’t know why it’s suddenly changed, but glad as hell it has and Mitch looks to be playing with confidence.

Let me go into conspiracy mode real quick… remember this quote from after the Saints loss when Nagy was asked about giving up play calling?

“I’m not going to get into all of that, if I did, no one (in the public) would know”

Did Nagy secretly give up play calling? Ok, I doubt that’s the case, but recently the game has gone against everything that Nagy was doing in the first half of the season.

What if this game was just an alignment of stars? Remember Ryan Pace and his love for Mitch driving a ’97 Camry?  Last night…COINCIDENTALLY…was ’90’s night at the Bears game. Maybe Pace saw this as his long play? Trade up to draft this guy who loves his ’97 Camry, so when the Bears have a pivotal game at the end of the season, and the Bears have ’90’s night, he’ll shine his brightest…

Alright enough conspiracies… back to reality here.

I know the last few games haven’t been against the NFL elite, but maybe the Bears needed a get-right game…or 3. The Cowboys, although looking like their heading into shit-show, dumpster fire territory, if not already there, don’t have a horrible defense, and Mitch had his best game of the season against them. They are 10th in YPG and 11th in PPG. I’d consider this a pretty encouraging W for that offense, and more importantly, that guy who’s supposed to be the future of this franchise.

The Bears need a lot of help to get into the playoffs, like both the Vikings and Rams losing 2 of their final 4 games… and that only even matters if the Bears win out.

  • Vikings have games against: Lions, @Chargers, Packers, Bears
  • Rams have games against: Seahawks, @Cowboys, @49ers, Cardinals
  • Bears have games against: @Packers, Chiefs, @Vikings

It’s not crazy to think that both of those teams have a chance to lose 2 of those 4 games, especially when the Bears could end up controlling their own destiny Week 17 against the Vikings. I honestly think there’s less of a shot that the Bears win out.

First things first though, let’s just focus on what’s up next. The Bears need to win next week against that team up North. It’s looking like the city of Green Bay may get a little snow next weekend, Maserati Mitch better bring his snow tires.

Do you think the Bears have a legitimate shot at the playoffs? Comment below.
