Chicago Bears Post-Game: Week Six, vs. Seattle Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks (3-2) at Chicago Bears (4-2)

With quarterback Jay Cutler returning to his Martz-led offense, the Chicago Bears were looking to improve their lead atop the NFC North with a victory over Pete Carroll’s Seahawks.

Matt Forte gave the Bears an early advantage in Chicago’s opening possession with a run-abundant drive and a six-yard touchdown. However, that was going to change almost as quickly as the run-filled scheme.

Seattle answered right back with a touchdown of their own, this time Matt Hasselbeck connecting with Deon Butler on a 22-yard pitch and catch.

The Bears’ offensive success faded as the Seahawks took advantage of abysmal play by Chicago. Justin Forsett made it a seven point lead with a nine-yard rush to the end zone.

Robbie Gould made it a one-point game going into halftime, with two field goals – one following a 67-yard connection from Cutler to Johnny Knox; who continues to thrive downfield.

Rod Marinelli’s 8th ranked defense held Seattle to minimal damage through the rest of the game, but any momentum left seemingly left Soldier Field as Cutler was sacked in the end-zone for a safety; one of six throughout the battle.

Marshawn Lynch improved the deficit to two possessions with a one-yard touchdown, eluding three defenders behind the line of scrimmage.

The most positive image in the game’s course was Devin Hester’s 89-yard punt return for a touchdown, tying Brian Mitchell’s 13 kick returns all-time.

However, the Bears’ onside kick failed as Lovie Smith’s Bears fell to 4-2 in 2010.

Notes

Kickoff returner and strong safety Danieal Manning returned a kickoff for an 89-yard touchdown, but was nullified by Rod Wilson’s holding penalty.

Johnny Knox has a 21.8 yards-per-catch average, ranking first in receivers with at least 15 receptions.
