Jay Cutler officially has his sixth offensive coordinator in his eight years with the Chicago Bears after the team announced the promotion of Dowell Loggains.
Loggains will move from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator for the upcoming season as head coach John Fox sticks with the same offense. “Dowell played a critical role on our offense last year,” Fox said via press release. “He’s an excellent coach with experience as a play-caller and a broad knowledge of offensive football. He has earned the respect of our players because they know he can help them get better.”
Last season saw Cutler put up some of the best numbers in his career with the Bears largely in part to former offensive coordinator Adam Gase’s offense. While it’s too early to tell what the future holds for Cutler and the Bears offense, Loggains will likely run the same type of offensive attack we saw in 2015.
“As I mentioned at the end of the season, our systems are in place. We will always look to evolve because the NFL is fluid and adapting is key to good coaching. Dowell will help us build on what we started as we head into the 2016 season.”
The 35-year-old Loggains does have some experience calling the plays for the Tennessee Titans at the end of the 2012 season and for all of 2013. He joined the Browns staff in 2014 and Fox brought him over to Chicago in 2015. It’s also the second year in a row Fox has promoted a coach to offensive coordinator, as he did the same thing with Gase last year.
