Chicago Bears Week Two Wrap Up | Dallas Cowboys

Chicago Bears (2-0) at Dallas Cowboys (0-2)

Coming into the season opener, Jay Cutler and his troops were looked as a dark horse by a select few, and a last place team within their division by the majority. However, following an undefeated start, the Monsters of the Midway are steadily gaining ground in terms of respect.

To start off the matchup, Chicago was constantly under fire offensively as DeMarcus Ware and company were racking up the hits on the Chicago native quarterback. The Vanderbilt star refused to back down, though, as Cutler continued to step up into the opposing blitzer’s face and sling the ball downfield.

Under the guidance of Mike Martz, the Bears’ complex offense moved the ball efficiently through the air by qu

ick passes down the seam. This selection of plays spread coverage schemes for the Cowboys as Brandon Manumaleuna and Desmond Clark were called to double team both ends.

While it may not be the prettiest way of blocking, it ultimately worked in Chi-Town’s favor and gave Cutler room to breathe.

Rod Marinelli and Lovie Smith need a bit of fine tuning defensively, however, as the prevent-style defense wasn’t nearly effective as the defense needed to be down the stretch. Smith needs to break his habits of lying in zones to preserve the lead, as it’s apparent that Chicago has to

attack in order for success to be imminent.

The bottom line: the Chicago Bears claimed victorious over a Super Bowl favorite team, with arguably the most complex offense in football that will most likely improve as time goes on. Fortunately, the sky is the limit for the city of Chicago, and they are NOT who we thought they were.
