A former Stanley Cup champion is returning to the Blackhawks.
As the NHL Free Agency period is set to begin on Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks made a move Sunday to bring back two-time Stanley Cup Winner Andrew Shaw.
The move was really one that no one could see coming but is on trend with how general manger Stan Bowman has operated the past few seasons, bringing back former players after dumping them for salary relief. This year, Shaw is that guy.
The 27-year-old Shaw returns to Chicago after being traded to Montreal during the 2016 offseason. He spent three seasons with the Canadiens, tallying 96 points including a career high 47 last season.
Per the Chicago Tribune, Shaw was actually on a plan leaving Chicago after visiting his brother when he found out about the news. He had a conference call with reporters after the news broke and expressed how glad he is to be back.
