The Chicago Blackhawks head coaching search this offseason was seen as the biggest thing to nail down, even though the draft and free agency will be vital as well. Luke Richardson was the organization’s bench boss for two and a half years before being let go in December.
Anders Sorensen stepped up to take over Richardson’s role on an interim basis, and was seen as a real option to take the full time gig not too long ago. Chicago had seen five other coaching vacancies be filled before theirs, but it appears that they are ready to make their decision official on the next leader of the franchise.
REPORT: Chicago Blackhawks to name Jeff Blashill as their head coach
Reports have surfaced that Blashill could be named the Blackhawks’ next head coach as soon as Thursday. The former Red Wings bench boss had met with general manager Kyle Davidson least week, and it looks like everything will be made official by the end of the week.
Blashill spent seven seasons as the lead man in Detroit, and he posted a 204-261-72 record in 537 games. He got a tough draw with his first head coaching job in the NHL, as the Red Wings were rebuilding for a handful of years while he was at the helm. All eyes will be on who Blashill has join his staff, as those hires will be equally as important moving forward.
