With the 2025 NHL draft lottery officially in the books, the Chicago Blackhawks will be drafting third overall at the end of June. They had an 18.5% chance at winning the lottery outright when it was down to the final ball, but the New York Islanders made the shocking leap to win the top pick in the draft.
The Blackhawks entered the lottery with the second-best odds of winning the top selection, just behind the San Jose Sharks, who held a 25.5% chance to win the lottery after coming out on top a season ago. Chicago last won the lottery in 2023, where they selected franchise cornerstone Connor Bedard.
The Chicago Blackhawks will be picking third overall

The Blackhawks have the ability to add a true game changer to the organization once again this summer with the third overall pick. While they might miss out on the likes of Matthew Schaefer and Michael Misa, there are still a plethora of goal-scoring options they could go with at number three overall.
Porter Martone and James Hagens are the first two forwards that come to mind for general manager Kyle Davidson to choose from if they can’t take Schaefer or Misa. Martone is a big winger who would be an excellent complement to Bedard, and Hagens has just as much upside as anyone in the class.
