The Chicago Cubs have had a series of unfortunate injury news occur during their trip to face the Los Angeles Dodgers this weekend.

Designated hitter Seiya Suzuki had to exit Saturday night’s game due to right wrist pain. Chicago was able to win the contest 16-0. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Suzuki is day-to-day with the injury.

On Sunday, the Cubs revealed that starting pitcher Justin Steele would miss the remainder of the season as he undergoes Tommy John surgery to repair his left elbow.

On Sunday night, Chicago saw another player in the starting lineup exit due to an injury.

Per Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times, catcher Carson Kelly left the game in the bottom of the sixth inning due to a left-hand contusion. He was replaced by Miguel Amaya.

“Carson Kelly is out of the game in B6 with a left hand contusion, per the Cubs, replaced by Miguel Amaya behind the plate. Kelly was hit in the hand in his last at-bat,” Lee posted on X.

Amaya is batting .250/.273/.400 this season with one home run and four RBIs. Amaya replaced Suzuki on Saturday night and hit his first home run of the year.

Justin Turner was the Cubs’ designated hitter on Sunday.

The Cubs enjoyed a 4-2  win over the Dodgers.

(Update)

Following the game, Kelly talked to reporters about his injury, per a video provided by Marquee Sports Network. His hand is not broken, although he has some soreness. Due to the issue, his status is “day-to-day.”
