For the first time since 2008, the Chicago Cubs are National League Central Division champions.
The Cubs lost to the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday but with the San Francisco Giants 6-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals later in the night, the Cubs have officially clinched the division title.
At 93-53, the Cubs have the best record in all of baseball and will likely be the top seed in the National League Playoffs come October.
Yeah it sucks not clinching a division title with a win at home, but at this point the Cubs will take it. Especially since it puts their division rival even further back in the Wild Card race.
The Cubs will play a good amount of bench players on Friday vs. the Brewers, as Joe Maddon will use his “Sunday lineup” in the game. There will also likely be a postgame celebration.
