The MLB offseason is officially here and we are ready for another hot stove!

On Monday, players could start signing with new teams marking the start of the offseason. For the Chicago Cubs, it will certainly be an interesting one as they have a lot of needs to address.

The Cubs will be looking to find at least two more starters and some bullpen help after the struggles they had in the postseason. But before everything begins, the Cubs as expected made qualifying offers to both Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis.

#Cubs also (obviously) made qualifying offers to Jake Arrieta and Wade Davis to guarantee draft-pick compensation if they sign elsewhere.

The one-year qualifying offer to each player is for $17.4 million but it’s hard seeing either take that deal. Arrieta is going to command a lot of money on a weak starting pitcher’s market and will likely get that.

As for Davis, he has to be one of the top targets for the Cubs this offseason. He was fantastic in save chances this season and would eliminate a major need in the bullpen.

Each player has 10 days to reject or accept the offer. If they reject, the Cubs would receive a draft pick compensation from the team that signs either player.

The two are among nine total players that had qualifying offers extended. Here’s the list: Lorenzo Cain, Alex Cobb, Greg Holland, Eric Hosmer, Lance Lynn, Mike Moustakas and Carlos Santana.

The Cubs are expected to be players for Cobb, Holland and Lynn according to recent reports.
