The Chicago Cubs are expected to explore a few moves this summer as they prepare for a run in the postseason.
Following Kyler Tucker’s trade in the offseason, the Cubs became the favorites to win the NL Central. However, the team faced criticism for not aggressively landing Alex Bregman, as Chicago has a hole at third base.
Matt Shaw was sent down to the minors in April due to poor batting in his first month in the majors. Gage Workman has been DFA’d by the Cubs (and Chicago White Sox) since Shaw was sent to Iowa, as the Rule 5 pick’s glove was a serious weakness.
The Cubs are likely going to attempt a trade for pitching help to boost their starting after losing Justin Steele for the season due to an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. They could use bullpen help as well.
The Chicago Cubs have a trade target in mind

Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Cubs have a trade target identified for the infield, 2024 All-Star Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies.
“Several teams, including the Chicago Cubs and Los Angeles Dodgers, are closely monitoring Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon in case he’s traded this summer,” Nightengale wrote.
Ryan McMahon would improve 3B for Chicago

At 30, McMahon has been with the Rockies since 2017. He was the No. 42 pick in the 2013 MLB Draft. The lefty batter is hitting .209/.330/.379 with six home runs and 11 RBI through 44 games.
Colorado will be a seller at the deadline. The Rockies have an 8-37 record and are 20.5 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for first place in the NL West.
Entering Sunday’s contest against the White Sox, the Cubs have a one-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central. McMahon could be a piece that helps further that gap. One would expect his bat to be more sound between big bats in the Cubs’ lineup.
