There was great anticipation leading up to Cubs Convention this year with the announcement that slugger Sammy Sosa would be in attendance.
Twenty years after being traded by the organization, 2025 marked the first time he was officially welcomed back.
His reunion with the organization and fans began with a bang as it was announced that he and one other player will be inducted into Chicago’s Hall of Fame this summer.
Sammy Sosa will be inducted into the Chicago Cubs Hall of Fame this summer
Throughout 18 MLB seasons, Sosa spent 13 of them in a Cubs uniform. While his time with the team was clouded by controversy and resentment from his teammates, he was one of the best sluggers in the game. With the Chicago Cubs, he belted 545 out of his 609 career home runs that included three seasons of more than 60 long balls and an epic home run battle with Mark McGwire in 1988. His contributions on the field will now be recognized as he is set to be inducted into the Cubs Hall of Fame.

Alongside Sosa, Lee will be inducted into the Cubs Hall of Fame. The first baseman played 15 seasons in the big leagues, with seven of them coming with Chicago. As a Cub, he was a two time All-Star, two time gold glove award winner, won a batting title, and had one silver slugger. Additionally, he received MVP votes in three seasons with Chicago. He will go down as one of the Cubs most consistent hitters as he slashed .298/.378/.524 with the team.
What is the criteria to be inducted into the Cubs Hall of Fame?
Not including Sosa and Lee, the Cubs Hall of Fame consists of 63 players. Criteria to be inducted includes at least five seasons with the organization and they must have had significant contributions to the organization.
