While most of the attention surrounding the Chicago Cubs this offseason is revolving around the bullpen, the team still has a need in the starting rotation.
They added Tyler Chatwood to help the backend of their rotation but now they might have their eyes on a former ace according to a report that surfaced on Monday night.
The Huffington Post’s Andy Martino tweeted that the Cubs have shown some interest in New York Mets’ starter Matt Harvey. Here’s what he tweeted out on Monday night regarding it:

Martino also notes that the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles are also interested, which makes things interesting during the Winter Meetings. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal confirmed the report with the Orioles and Jon Heyman at FanRag Sports tweeted that the Rangers have discussed sending Jurickson Profar in the deal.
As for the Cubs, no reports of any discussions just yet but there is some interest. The Cubs could take a flyer on Harvey but the 28-year-old saw a dip in his velocity in 2016 and 2017, just two years after helping lead the Mets to the World Series in 2015.
A shoulder injury has bothered him throughout his career so it’s one of those risky moves that could pay off big time if Harvey can ever return to his 2015 form.
It’s just a report as of now and both the Orioles and Rangers seem to be more involved than the Cubs at this point, but stay tuned.
