The Chicago Cubs are once again riding another winning streak, currently standing at three games. They’ll look to add a fourth game to that ledger by sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers this afternoon. The Cubs were led to their 6-2 victory last night by one of their star players, Pete Crow-Armstrong, who drove in half of the Cubs’ runs (3) and is, by all accounts, having a breakout season.
PCA’s hot start to May is just a continuation of his hot April, where he was awarded the Player of the Month award for his play. PCA’s coming out party is a pleasant surprise, and a welcome one at that, with this being his third year in the big leagues.
This season for PCA was meant to be “a prove it” year, and thankfully, the Cubs are reaping the benefits of a breakout year for their young centerfielder. PCA’s play has been so impressive that he had one teammate in awe.
PCA’s play has impressed one of his teammates

The Cubs have one of the best lineups in all of baseball and it can be attributed to every facet of their lineup generating runs for them. From Ian Happ and Kyle Tucker at the top of the lineup to PCA at the bottom, the Cubs don’t have to look far to find players who can drive in runs.
One player in the Cubs lineup who has gotten off to a slow start is Dansby Swanson, who has been hitting eighth given his struggles. Even though Swanson’s play at the plate hasn’t been what the Cubs or fans have hoped for, he is at least giving them Gold Glove-caliber defense in the field.
PCA’s hot start to the season and hitting in front of Swanson, hopefully, will get his bat going with pitchers likely to favor facing Swanson over PCA. Marquee Sports Network caught up with Swanson after game two against the Brewers and asked him about PCA’s hot start saying of Crow-Armstrong “He’s so gifted.”
“He’s so gifted. He has so many ways to impact the game.”

The Chicago Cubs may have a perennial All-Star in PCA

After winning the Player of the Month award for April, PCA is on a great pace to win it again for May. In three games, PCA has hit three home runs, scored three runs, drove in five, and is hitting .231/.231/.923 for an OPS of 1.154.
PCA’s overall statistics show why Bleacher Report Walk-Off has PCA as the best centerfielder in baseball to begin this season.

PCA is ranked in the top ten this season for home runs (9), RBI (26), runs (26), doubles (10), and steals (12). When looking deeper at his advanced statistics, PCA’s Baseball Savant page has him ranked in the 100th percentile for both his baserunning value (7), and his range (7).
He also ranks in the 89th percentile for his arm value (1), the 95th percentile for his arm strength (93.0 mph), and the 95th percentile for his sprint speed (29.3). What’s even more impressive about PCA’s swing, which he changed during the offseason, is he’s added close to two miles per hour to his exit velocity, going from 88.9 in 2024 to 90.0 this season, which is also a career-high.
What’s even more impressive is PCA added nine points to his average against fastballs, going from .250 last season to .259 this season. PCA also saw a dramatic increase in his average against breaking balls, hitting .193 against them in 2024, and it jumped 133 points to .326 this season.
Even better, his slugging percentage is up against both going from .375 in 2024 to .672 this season against fastballs and .394 to .558 against breaking balls. These improvements are why PCA is having success, and why he will likely be the starting centerfielder for the National League in this year’s All-Star game.
