After what was a pretty quiet MLB Winter Meetings last week in Las Vegas in terms of the big free agents, the Chicago White Sox have met with one of those top free agents.
According to multiple reports, infielder Manny Machado was in Chicago today to meet with the White Sox just a week after the Winter Meetings wrapped up.
The 26-year-old Machado is one of the top free agents available, along with outfielder Bryce Harper. Machado was traded from Baltimore to Los Angeles mid-season and helped the Dodgers reach their second-straight World Series before falling to Boston.
With Machado in town, it looks like the White Sox pulled out all the stops for his visit:
The White Sox begin a week full of visits for Machado as he will take trips to New York to see the Yankees on Wednesday and Philadelphia to see the Phillies on Thursday. Chicago has been connected to both Machado and Harper as they look to make a big splash this offseason in a key rebuild year.
They recently traded for Yader Alonso who is actually Macahdo’s brother-in-law, and maybe the new signing could help the White Sox get a leg up on Machado.
As of now these three teams are the favorites to land him. Both the White Sox and Phillies also appear to be in on Harper as well.
