When Glenbard West’s starting QB Mike Matthew went down last week against Addison Trail, many wondered if this would be the end for the Hilltoppers. The last time back up QB Daver Glawe started a game was Sophomore year, where he started the 2nd game of the season against Leyden. This was not only Glawe’s first varsity start, but this was a key game as the high school football regular season is just 2 weeks from being over.
Daver Glawe embraced the pressure as he was 9-11, for 208 yards and two touchdown’s.
“He was very poised in his first varsity start,” Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet said of Glawe. “He threw the ball really well. I expected him to do this. He’s always been a gamer. He’s a solid kid that knows our offense and can throw the ball. He’s fearless.”
York was up 10-0 early but Glenbard West scored 27 unanswered points. One of Glawe’s favorite targets of the night was senior WR mark Hiben. Hiben had 4 catches for 128 yards to help lead West to victory. Kendall Johnson and Nick Burrello also helped lead the attack against York, both scoring touchdowns.
York is now 6-1 while Glenbard West remains perfect at 7-0, a top the West Suburban Silver Conference.
