Randy Wells has been fantastic for the Cubs in his short career. The only thing that has held him back has been run support from his offense. On Sunday, Wells didn’t have to worry about run support. For each of the 1st 5 innings, Chicago put runs on the board.

Chicago lit up Milwaukee’s starting pitcher Dave Bush for 9 (7 earned) runs. Rookie Tyler Colvin (who started in center for Marlon Byrd) ignited the offense. Both Colvin and Kosuke  Fukudome fell a triple short of the cycle in the rout of the Brewers.

The Cubs hit 4 homeruns in the game. It was the 1st time that happened since mid season last year. Geovany Soto, Derrek Lee along with Colvin and Fukudome had hits that left the ballpark.

The North-Siders pounded out 18 hits against the Brew Crew. Ryan Theriot had 3 RBIs on 5 hits. Theriot is hitting over .500 against Milwaukee this season. The Cubs’ lead off man also swiped his 5th bag of the season.

Randy Wells gave the Cubs yet another quality start. The sophomore threw 7 innings of 2 run ball. Wells showed great command by walking 0 and striking out 6.

Lefty James Russell pitched a scoreless 8th. Justin Berg worked a scoreless 9th to seal the Cubs’ victory.

Finals Score: Cubs (9-10) 12 – Brewers (8-10) 2

WP: Randy Wells (2-0)

LP: Dave Bush (1-1)

The Cubs will travel back home to Wrigley from Wrigley North to take on the Nationals. Word around the league is that Washington is much improved. The pitching matchup is shaping up to be John Lannan (1-1) for Washington vs. Carlos Silva (2-0) for the Cubs.
