Win: Edinson Volquez (2-3 6.39) Loss: Edwin Jackson (0-4 6.27)
Home Runs: SD: Yonder Alonso (3), Carlos Quentin (2), Nick Hundley (3) CHC: Luis Valbuena (5), David DeJesus (4), Starlin Castro (3), Cody Ransom (3)
The Good: Luis Valbuena and Starlin Castro each hit two run home runs, with David DeJesus and Cody Ransom hitting a solo homers. Anthony Rizzo added a trio of doubles. Welington Castillo also pitched in with a double.
The Bad: Kameron Loe allowed ANOTHER home run, this time to Carlos Quentin. He has already exceeded the amount of home runs he has allowed from last season. Alfonso Soriano and Julio Borbon were hitless in multiple at bats.
The Ugly: Edwin Jackson allowed 11 hits over 4.2 innings and allowed eight runs in what was his worst start of the season. The outing raised his ERA t0 6.27 on the season, which is not what the Cubs expected out of their top off-season signing. Hector Rondon allowed four runs over two innings, with Nick Hundley’s three run homer inflating his ERA.
The Stat: Double dose today. This was the first Cubs game all season in which the deficit was more than four runs, and the 13 runs scored by the Padres are the most for the franchise since 1991.
Notes: Former Cub Andrew Cashner faces off against Scott Feldman in game 3 of a 4 game set. Start time at 7:05.
