Cubs Hammer Moyer, Start 2nd Half Out Right

Cubs 12, Phillies 6

Chicago — The Cubs hitters started out the second half of 2010 the exact opposite way they played the first. After beng shutout to end the first half the oft offensively challenged Cubbies busted out the sticks against former Cub Jamie Moyer (9-9). He lasted only 3 innings after allowing 6 runs. On the opposite side Ryan Dempser (8-7) pitched brilliantly after allowing a two run shot to Ryan Howard in the first going six strong allowing just the two with nine strikeouts.

The real story though was the Cub bats. Derrek Lee, Alfonso Soriano, and Geovany Soto all hit home runs. Aramis Ramirez had a pair of two run doubles and rookie Starlin Castro came a home run short of the cycle and stole home. It was the Cubs first straight steal of home since Brian McRae did it over 14 years ago.

In other notes Carlos Zambrano finished up anger management courses and reported to Mesa to begin rehab. There is no timetable for his return… Placido Polanco began his rehab assignment for Philadelphia at Single-A and went 1-4 with a run scored… Cubs GM Jim Hendry met with Ted Lilly before the game to discuss his future in Chicago.

Been following Chicago sports for many years. I have ties to Rockford, Illinois however have since been displaced in North Carolina far from Illinois. I am still an avid fan despite the geographical complications in following my teams. I am known as the internet’s #1 Rex Grossman connoisseur
