The Chicago Cubs are switching things up this week following their series loss over the weekend to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs won the opening game on Friday but lost two in a row to the Phillies, including a 3-1 loss in front of 31,761 fans at Wrigley Field on Sunday.
When he was asked about switching the lineup to promote a suddenly hot Pete Crow-Armstrong last week, Cubs manager Craig Counsell said he didn’t want to make a change given how the offense was performing in April.
“I think our lineup is executing at a really high level right now,” Counsell said. “I think the way it’s structured… It’s who’s around you kind of determines who your matchups are, kind of later in the game. So we’ve got Pete kind of insulated, and so he’s going to get a lot of right-handers. And he’s been really performing against right-handed pitching…
“It’s more important who plays than the order. And I think they’re they’re producing. And so no intention (of making a change) right now.”
The Chicago Cubs demoted Dansby Swanson in the batting order

On Monday, Counsell revealed a new lineup with shortstop Dansby Swanson being moved from fifth in the batting order to eighth before Chicago’s matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates at 5:40 p.m. CST at PNC Park.

Swanson is batting .181/.232/.345 with an OPS of .577, four home runs, 15 RBI, and 38 strikeouts this season.
Swanson has just four hits in 20 at-bats in the last seven days. He’s hit three RBI, taken two walks, and has been struck out eight times during that span.
