DePaul Adds Size To Their Roster

CHICAGO- DePaul continues to add pieces to their men’s basketball program as it was announced today that forward Sandi Marcius {Pronounced: Sahndi Mar-chooch} will be transferring to Lincoln Park.

The 6-10 forward is coming to DePaul from Purdue and will be eligible to play for the upcoming 2013-2014 season. The Croatia native played in 75 games for the Boilermakers and started 13 of those games.

During his time in West Lafayette, Marcuis averaged 6.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. He did so while only playing an average of 10 minutes per game.

The Big Ten all-academic honoree could get more playing time in a Blue Demons uniform. He brings much needed size to a team which lost big men Donnavan Kirk and Derrell Robertson Jr. {among other players} in recent months.

Marcius is the second player to transfer to DePaul this month. Two weeks ago former Illinois swing man Myke Henry announced his decision to transfer to the Catholic institution.

DePaul’s roster for the upcoming school year is looking completely different from last year’s squad. With the team entering the new version of the Big East Conference on July 1st, there is hope that the Blue Demons will be more competitive this time around.

Head coach Oliver Purnell is entering his fourth season at the helm for DePaul men’s basketball. During his time on the sidelines at Allstate Arena, Purnell has yet to have a 20-win season.

He has also struggled in conference play with a dismal record of just 6-50. Hopefully a change of scenery with new players will finally breathe life into a program which hasn’t been to the postseason since 2007.

Only time will tell. But for now, it’s good to see that DePaul is making the effort behind the scenes to improve the program.
