Do I hate the Pacers?

Hatred (or hate) is a deep and emotional extreme dislike that can be directed against individuals, entities, objects, or ideas.

On Bulls Zone, I recently voiced my extreme dislike for the Indiana Pacers and some of their players. I used the word Hate to describe this passionate outburst. Sometimes, like love, hate is thrown around, speaking before thinking. So I thought to myself, “Do I really hate the Pacers?”

Yes, yes I do.

I loathe the way they act out after meaningless plays on the court. I despise the antics of young superstar, Paul George and his unprovoked disses at the Bulls and their beloved fans. George’s mocking of the Bulls SeeRed campaign with his own SeeGold tweets, kind of immature in my book.  Danny Granger with his tough guy frolics, who’s he kidding? Hibbert’s constant complains, Lance Stephenson’s actions in general and Scola’s hair! Every time I see C.J. Watson I’m reminded of his ill-advised play in the closing seconds vs. the Sixers in the playoffs. Bulls fans, you know what I’m referring to.

Does Frank Vogel have more of a punch me in the face face than Jay Cutler or is that just me?

Don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge and respect their skill sets. They’re the better team, at least as I’m writing this. Their shooters hit shots as they’re supposed to. They rotate and recover on the defensive end. Hibbert jumps straight in the air to challenges DRose and does so without fouling. And they can play inside and out with the talented big men they have on their roster.

It’s accepted to hate the Miami Heat. The nation, Bulls and Pacers fans hate the Heat. Why is it not accepted for one Bulls fan to dislike the Indiana Pacers. After all, I think they make it easy for me.

Call these insecurities, that’s fine. Maybe I am who I make fun of. But I can’t help but to feel this way about the rival “little Brother” taking that next step. Sue me.

I think it’s my God given right to express these feelings. Would you rather me lie?

Chicago is a much larger city than Indianapolis. It may not be on the same level as Los Angeles, Miami or New York but it is close. It is much harder to get a team together in a small market like Indianapolis than it is in Chicago. Players don’t want to go to small markets. It is much more impressive that a bunch of players that were lower draft picks with an untested coach can put together a winning team in Indianapolis than it is in Chicago. Indiana can’t get a top all star in a trade. They can’t order up a Phil Jackson or a Pat Riley when they need a new coach. Indiana created their all stars – Granger, George, Hibbert. They promoted a former assistant coach to head coach. Indiana has a basketball genius in Larry Bird. The guy can find and develop talent as well as he could hit the three. If anything, Indianapolis is one of the best basketball stories in the NBA. They deserve more respect than they will get but that has always been the case.
