So you may not know Nikola Mirotic or Jimmy Butler. Maybe after this off-season, you may never hear those names again. These two forwards were the Bulls answer to our prayers in a Shooting Guard heavy draft, in a season where the Bulls biggest hole was at Shooting Guard, and the popular choice for Shooting Guard could have been selected at 23(a pick the Bulls eventually acquired.)
So are you confused yet? Good, so is the rest of the Bulls nation. Look, Nikola Mirotic is a stud, and this may wind up being a great pick. But if we look down the road and see Marshon Brooks schooling us in New Jersey within a year, the GarPax machine wont be able to live this down.
Let me back track. Before today’s draft, Marshon Brooks was the premiere Shooting Guard within the Bulls range. Many fans were hopeful, and for a good reason, he almost fell to us. We had the 28th pick, and Brooks went 25th overall(Taj Gibson also went 26th just a few years ago.) The Bulls traded their 28th pick, and ultimately received Houston’s 23rd in return. The Bulls retained their 30th pick, and the fan choices were Kyle Singler, Malcolm Lee, and my personal choice Davis Bertans were passed up indefinitely. Jimmy Butler was selected with the 30th pick, leaving fans worried.
Either Gar Foreman and John Paxson have some serious magic up their sleeves, or they turned bonehead overnight.
