Former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus has found himself a new coaching job in the NFL.
The Bears moved on from Eberflus after another brutal mistake leading to an embarrassing loss on Thanksgiving day against the Detroit Lions. Following the end of the 2024 season, the Chicago Bears ended up hiring Ben Johnson.
Eberflus has gained interest from a couple of teams regarding a defensive coordinator role. However, it’s looking like he has been hired for an NFC team’s defensive coordinator opening.
Per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Cowboys are expected to announce Eberflus as their next defensive coordinator shortly.
“Former Bears coach Matt Eberflus is headed to Dallas today for an interview, and as long as all goes well, he’s expected to be named the Cowboys defensive coordinator, per sources,” Pelissero posted on X. “A big hire for new coach Brian Schottenheimer that should be finalized soon.”

Eberflus will be rejoining his former team in 2025
Eberflus will now be rejoining a team he previously coached for several years. Eberflus served as the linebackers coach during his tenure in Dallas and then was promoted to passing game coordinator from 2016 to 2017.
After his run in Dallas, he spent 2016 to 2021 as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts before coming to the Bears. Eberflus spent three years as head coach of the Bears with a head coaching record of 14-32. Eberflus also was the first Bears head coach in franchise history to be fired during the middle of the season.

It is worth noting that the Bears will host a game against the Cowboys during the 2025 season. The official time and date of the game will not be revealed for at least a few more months.
Due to Eberflus being hired by the Cowboys, this will to a very interesting matchup between Eberflus vs his replacement in Chicago. There’s a really good chance that the NFL could put this as a primetime matchup on Sunday Night Football with how big the stakes could be and the potential of a Caleb Williams vs Dak Prescott showdown.
A primetime game between the Bears and Cowboys in 2025 could lead to massive ratings for the NFL.
