After spending less than one year with the Fire, forward Juan Luis Anangono is headed back to South America.
The Fire announced Thursday the club had loaned the Ecuadorian striker to LDU Quito. The loan, as currently structured, will last for six months, effectively ending his season with the Fire.
“Both the club and Juan were looking for an option for him to gain consistent playing time,” said Fire head coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop in a press release. “The loan has been in the works for a while now and both parties agreed that it is best that Juan return to Ecuador for the next six months and continue to play full matches. We’re looking forward to keeping tabs and monitoring his progress.”
With Anangono out of the picture, the Fire’s depth at forward becomes more limited. 2013 MLS MVP Mike Magee and the Fire’s second-leading goalscorer Quincy Amarikwa will remain as starters. The team’s offense will be bolstered by the team’s leading goalscorer, rookie midfielder Harrison Shipp, who scored his sixth goal of the season Wednesday in the Fire’s 1-1 draw with Toronto FC.
Anangono joined the Fire on July 23, 2013 from Argentinos Juniors.
