The Philadelphia Flyers defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 in their first meeting in the Wells Fargo Center since Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2010.

Jimmy Hayes cracked the scoreboard first by notching his second goal of the season in just his third career NHL game assisted by Jamal Mayers. 2 seconds later, Andrew Shaw dropped the gloves in his first career start with Zac Rinaldo that left Shaw with 10 stitches as he returned.

But his day wasn’t over. Shaw scored his first career NHL goal in the second period on a nifty backhander that put the Blackhawks back up by a goal.

Philadelphia followed that up though with 3 straight goals in a span of 4:30 minutes putting the Flyers up 4-2.

Patrick Sharp committed a 4-minute high-sticking penalty near the halfway mark of the third period and as soon as that ended, Brent Seabrook was credited with an even-strengthed goal to bring the Blackhawks back within a goal.

Scoring just 1 goal in his last 12 games, Patrick Kane finally found that back of the net 25 second later tying the game at 4. But Kane was guilty of a high-stick under 2 minutes left in the period and the Flyers took advantage as James van Riemsdyk registered his second goal of the game sealing a Philadelphia 5-4 victory.

Despite allowing 5 goals, Ray Emery picked up right where he left off and didn’t get much help defensively tonight stopping 41 shots.

Dylan Olsen, Blackhawks 28th overall draft pick in 2009, also made his NHL debut and saw over 9 minutes of ice time and recorded a blocked shot and a hit.
