The Chicago Blackhawks sweep the season series against the Dallas Stars by defeating them 5-2 at the Madhouse on Madison. The Hawks also extend their winning streak to six games with less than two weeks until the regular-season comes to a close.
Jonathan Toews opened up the scoring a little past the halfway mark of the first period when he tipped home a shot from Marian Hossa’s slapper at the top of the right circle.
The Hawks increased their lead to two goals after Viktor Stalberg blew by a couple defenders and muscled a shot that squeezed past Stars goaltender Richard Bachman.
Dallas responded less than two minutes later when Jamie Benn found the back of the net following a Patrick Kane offensive zone turnover.
Benn added another goal early in the third to tie the game at two, but Chicago quickly pulled away potting three goals from Andrew Shaw, Niklas Hjalmarsson, and Hossa (empty-netter) to secure the Hawks’ 33rd win of the season.
The Hawks killed off their only penalty on the night, but continued to struggle on the power play failing to capitalize on all four of their man advantages.
Dave Bolland quietly had an effective game at the faceoff dot winning 15-of-19 draws (78.9%).
Ray Emery stopped 16 of 18 shots faced (.889 save %) improving his record to 16-1-0 on the year.
WHAT’S NEXT?
The Hawks are off for the next four days then return to action on Friday against the Nashville Predators at the United Center; puck drop at 7:30pm CT!
