Chicago Bears fan base is the most heartbroken in NFL: Study

The 2024 Chicago Bears found new ways to lose games. From the Hail Mary pass that allowed the Washington Commanders to sneak past the Bears to the Green Bay Packers blocking Cairo Santos’ walk-off field goal in Week 11, fans suffered agonizing defeats en route to a 5-12 season.

Chicago has done a lot of losing in its recent history. Chicago’s last playoff win came in 2010 when they knocked off the Seattle Seahawks. The Bears would lose the next week to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC championship when quarterback Jay Cutler exited the game due to injury.

Since that game, the Bears have appeared in only two postseason contests.

Chicago Bears fans are “heartbroken”

It’s no wonder why a study by Flashpicks found the Bears fan base to be the most heartbroken of any of the league’s 32 teams. The study used a score of “heartbroken” type posts on X, Reddit, and Google searches. Flashpicks factored in data such as postseason success. (Evidently, they didn’t consider offseason moves in their study, as Chicago is enjoying a three-peat in 2025.)

Per the results of the study published by Eli Ong of WGN, the Bears ranked first for being heartbroken.

“Ranking first with a “heartbroken” score of 58.6 out of 100, Bears fans had a particularly bad habit of “heartbroken” tweets this season, as well as lonely Google searches and “heartbroken” Reddit posts, as frustrations have festered in Chicago in the 39 years since the Bears last Super Bowl victory,” Ong wrote.

Bears fans cannot find love

The angry and heartbroken fan base reeks of emotional volatility, which doesn’t appear to be helping them on the love market.

“Bears fans are responsible for a whopping 33,040 Google searches for speed dating and dating apps this season, as first dates in Chicago seemed just as scarce as Bears wins,” Ong wrote. “Only NFL fans in Los Angeles were looking for love online at a higher frequency (49,460 searches).

“The average number of searches for dating terms in cities across America came in at 17,300 searches since September 2024. There were also 40 Reddit posts containing words like “alone” and “heartbreak” on the Bears forum this season, plus 467 tweets with the word “sad” and 89 tweets with the word “angry.”

Unfortunately for Bears fans, they can’t turn to solace via other Chicago teams.

Here’s hoping new head coach Ben Johnson can help the team win more games, and improve the dating scene in the Chicagoland area.
