He’s Human; Carlos Silva Loses 1st Game

Carlos Silva is human after all. Of all teams, the Chicago White Sox dealt the potential comeback player of the year his 1st loss of the season.

The Cubs’ starter was great but still took the loss thanks to the Cubs’ putrid offense. Silva (8-1) went 7 innings allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits. Silva struck out 6 hitters while walking only 2.

In typical fashion, notorias Cub killer Paul Konerko did the damage vs. Silva as he recorded RBI singles in the 1st and 7th.

The North-Siders were able to pound out 8 hits (10 overall to the Sox 9) against Mark Buehrle (4-6). However, much like the rest of the season, the Cubs couldn’t put any runs on the board until the 9th.

The Cubs were 1-10 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base throughout Saturday’s game. The only Cubs’ run came in the 9th off of Bobby Jenks (11) when Ryan Theriot singled home Geovany Soto.

Once again, Lou Piniella regulated Tyler Colvin to pinch hitting duty. To no ones surprise, Colvin singled in his only at bat. Alfonso Soriano (0-4), Xavier Nady (1-4), Kosuke Fukudome (0-1) combined to go 1-9 throughout the game. Marlon Byrd continues to be the Cubs’ best threat at the plate. Byrd went 3-4 including the only Cubs’ extra base hit (double).

The Cubs will look to salvage the last game of the series tomorrow. Ted Lilly (1-5) is still looking for his 2nd win of the season. Opposing the Cubs will be the struggling righy, Gavin Floyd (2-6). The series wraps up at 7:00 PM.
